Episode 48: The Mikes in Our Lives

Hark, such brain music and brain words gracing the airwaves last night! We heard from  several of the talented folks slated to perform at this month’s Homegrown variety show, spun some brand-new tracks by Noggin (whose own Amber Mouton got her hair victimized by Stacey Kelly Styling such that Spock himself would blush to see it…), and listened to some sawweeet live tunes from Natasha Sanchez, Jeremy Joyce, and the Sabertooth Swingers. Amidst the music, we were treated to some fiery opinions about Halloween courtesy of Pizza Mike and tackled such burning questions as:

Beatles vs Stones?

Star Wars vs Star Trek?

Kirk’s Svelt Musculature vs Capt Picard’s Shiny Bald Head? (…or Voyager….I guess…)

And I ask you: 

Chevy vs Ford?

Chevy vs Florida?

Pizza Mike, Trumpet Mike, or Money Mike? (Which Mike is *your* Mike?)

Episode 47: Tequil-over (Buffa’s After-Party, Oct)

What happens when you are physically undead from too many gigs/witless side-hustles and want to kick everyone in the kneecaps? You put on bear-cat ears, drink a stimulant, and show up at the after-party! A whale of a time! (Happy birthday to Renard Boussiere and Gloria Turrini.) Heard tunes from tons of excellent local singer-songwriters after kicking things off with Katie Sikora talking about “The Sexism Project” (journalistic exhibition she’s spearheading which runs Nov. 2, 3, and 5 at Prez Hall.) Many of the recorded tunes we “spun” last night are from the artists playing the event. (Also, past MM&BRH guest Dominique LeJeune aka DJ Dominomnom is DJing the opening night. Woo!) A particularly insane evening at 102.3 WHIV FM! Featuring all sorts of unlikely parties partying together. Old hats, new hands, no dogs, neat tricks, etc. The inception of “Hair on the Air”, I think our greatest gimmick yet, because I have a great face for radio and clearly need my hair in hot rollers while wearing headphones. And of course we heard some great tunes, both live and recorded. Thanks to everyone who hung out and tuned in! Every Sunday night, folks. Lawd! What a crew. I harassed Jamey St Pierre and Ted Hefko to be on the show after an intimate performance with Dick Deluxe at the US Mint, and all these other great folks showed up too. Thank you so much to everyone that played, read, chatted, took pictures, refrained from barking, and lurked around in such a way as to cultivate the warm, wacky atmosphere that makes Sunday nights at 102.3 WHIV FM such a blast.
