Episode 58: WORLD PREMIERE(s)!!

We WORLD PREMIEREd brand new original acoustic live ditties and brand new freshly recorded album tracks. We reprised the WORLD PREMIERE of Musicians, Mentors, and Barroom Heroes by having Marc “Pepe Peligroso” Paradis back on the air. (On the civilian side of the air, that is–he is also a DJ at WHIV.) I think I am capitalizing WORLD PREMIERE to evoke the PHYSICAL CHALLENGE of Rory Danger, who we also spun. What fun!!

Playlist/Minutes:

“Graceland” – Paul Simon

“You’ll Never Sleep In This Town” – Patrick Cooper LIVE

“Broken Hearts and Broken Car Doors” – Natasha Sanchez LIVE

“DMV Song, Part 2A: LA” – Natasha LIVE (This is my interpretation of what she said the song title was. Discuss!) WORLD PREMIERE!!!

“Home Was A Feeling” – Lonesome Leash. Was going to play his “Ghosts” to follow up #WhoNat’s heartbreak/carbreak song, but this one is (a bit) more uplifting

“Never Satisfied” – Alison McConnell WORLD PREMIERE!!! Fresh off her just released album of the same name. Those horns!

“Won’t Let Me Go” – Alison McConnell WORLD PREMIERE!!! Track 2.

“Shocked By Life” – Will Dickerson LIVE

“The Wedding Song / I Found You” – Will Dickerson & Thia Schuessler LIVE The opening to Thia’s short film, which will be WORLD PREMIEREd at Le Petit Theatre this Sunday. Love this: basically she arrived in New Orleans from LA and began stalking Will and–unbeknownst to him–started making a movie based on his life. And now they are both starring in it! Stalking is often the most efficient way to get things done, in my experience.

“Apathy” – Will Dickerson LIVE

Gianni improvises a poem about soup (!!)

Wade Burnham recites “The Aura of Humility” a poem that was published in The Silent Journey in 2004! Not Just Wade” but a poet too! Checkout the awesome at the end of this post. For a long time, Wade and I had back2back shows Sunday nights and it was so great to be in the studio with him again. Now, you can catch his show “The Super Sounds of Someday” every Monday from 9-11pm, right after Marc Paradis’ “Mega Music Mondays” 7-9pm. Hooray for WHiV DJs hanging out on each other’s shows!

Pizza Mike reprises his Dirty Sphinx Poem, discovered on the bathroom wall at The Abbey- classic!!

“My Baby Gets the Blues” – Jamey St. Pierre off his recent “Barely Live At BMac’s” album. After Marc Paradis assured me that the CD contained no profanity, I spun the dial to a random track and of course it turned out to be the track I always play haha. If the Musicians, Mentors, and Barroom Heroes (barely, also) live album gets enough funding (a cause you can assist here) you will be able to hear the live radio version of this tune, when Jamey WORLD PREMIEREd it last year!

Some other stuff we talked about. What was it?

“Circque Dangereux” – Rory Danger & the Danger Dangers. So excited to have Pepe Peligroso himself in the studio with us, my first-ever on-air guest! Also, in my humble opinion, the Dangers are the most fun band to see live in New Orleans.

“Drunkard’s Blues” – Lou covers Hank Thompson LIVE

“You May Be Someone” – Lou covers Luke Gordon LIVE

“Checkout Time” – Lou covers Jay Chevalier LIVE for Hannah

“Worried Mind” – Eileen Jewell

Thanks-you to Sharappa for the vid and Natasha for the pics!

"The Aura of Humility"

[as published in The Silent Journey, read allowed on MMBRH last night]

Distinction, fabulousness, grandeur
Drifting away
On the ocean current
Better this way most likely
The pedestals are so high
Though not wishing for them
Sometimes they appear
Beneath
Like fungus growing
Without notice
Every compliment greeted
With a humble acceptance
Is the catalyst
Shine
Shine bright for the moment
For one day the fungus dies
The pedestal falls
