Hark, such brain music and brain words gracing the airwaves last night! We heard from several of the talented folks slated to perform at this month’s Homegrown variety show, spun some brand-new tracks by Noggin (whose own Amber Mouton got her hair victimized by Stacey Kelly Styling such that Spock himself would blush to see it…), and listened to some sawweeet live tunes from Natasha Sanchez, Jeremy Joyce, and the Sabertooth Swingers. Amidst the music, we were treated to some fiery opinions about Halloween courtesy of Pizza Mike and tackled such burning questions as:
Beatles vs Stones?
Star Wars vs Star Trek?
Kirk’s Svelt Musculature vs Capt Picard’s Shiny Bald Head? (…or Voyager….I guess…)
And I ask you:
Chevy vs Ford?
Chevy vs Florida?
Pizza Mike, Trumpet Mike, or Money Mike? (Which Mike is *your* Mike?)
We learned that a French horn is but “a single shoe alone on the road” and that if you can drive all the way from Metairie, park at Galvez, and walk into the Quarter, you can put a little more effort into your Halloween costume.
[Note: As we still have rum left, this episode is still brought to you by Checkpoint Charlie’s!]
Playlist:
“Lost My Driving Wheel” – Tom Rush [David Wiffen]. Aka forced daily dose of sadness, before you lot start making me laugh/laugh-wheeze.
“Directions” – The Hail Mercy (Kristopher Russ.) Thanks for coming into the studio and chatting with us, Kristopher, Bostonboy Geo, Jillian Kay, and Sly Theard! (You can catch them at that great local variety show, Homegrown. This month, it takes place Nov 13th at the House of Blues.)
“Won’t Last” – Bostonboy Geo (the clean version…)
“September” – Jillian Kay Music LIVE
“Changed Man” – Dave Ferrato. Did you catch him at the Old Arabi Bar this weekend with Irene Sage? Love this whole album of his, I chose this track specifically because the time [5:23] is my favorite 3 digit number.
“Country Heroes” – Hank Williams III
“Gardenhead / Leave Me Alone” – Neutral Milk Hotel (melodramatic-whiny-poet-(split)-personality loves these guys as lyricists: “Follow me through/ a city of frost-covered angels/ I swear I have nothing to prove/ I just wanna dance in your tangles/ To give me some reason to move/ ….And the glory-boys by your bedside/ will love you as long as you’re something to own.”)
“Lizard Brain” – Noggin (Title track off this b!tchin’ album you can buy at nolanoggin.com along with a sweet T-shirt the likes of which I received last night.)
“Fertility Doll” – Noggin (A love story)
“Vulva” – Noggin ( Stacey on Noggin: “Like the Beastie Boys, but with a sense of humor.” Also, Chevy vs Vulva? Anyone?)
“David Boody” – Terra Terra. This band is killer! Genre-less space jazz? And do check out Alex D’Önofrio‘s monthly Guitar Night!
“Disconnected” – Natasha Sanchez LIVE woes-of-modernity phone song
“Go” – Cat Empire (see above)
“Only Light” – Cat Empire

“Where the Wild Orchids Sing” – Jeremy LIVE
